Aroma chemicals from India affected by lockdown

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected nearly every global industry and the manufacturing and distribution of aroma chemicals is no exception.

Used in perfume, cosmetics, personal & home care, as well as for food and beverage applications, the flourishing flavour and fragrance industry drives the aroma chemical market. It is one of few industries that affects everyone’s day-to-day life. In fact, according to a report from IAL Consultants, the global market for aroma chemicals was estimated at US $4,727 million in 2018 and was expected to grow at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 5.3% to reach US $6,126 million by 2023.

China, which has become a main supplier for basic raw materials in this industry, and the source of the Coronavirus outbreak, presented the first supply challenge for 2020. Then on March 24th, the government of India issued a 21-day lockdown for the entire country, closing manufacturing facilities and suspending transportation links for this second key area of aroma chemical ingredients.

Due to be lifted on April 14th, it is uncertain if the lockdown will be extended as other countries have done. In light of this, Zanos Ltd. are alerting our customers of the following Indian-sourced products which are affected:

  • Alpha Damascone
  • Ambrettolide
  • Amyl Salicylate
