Scents that people find attractive

A 2017 paper in the Frontiers in Psychology highlighted that senses all play a part in determining someone’s level of attractiveness, especially in terms of scent.

The relationship between smell and emotion is evident through the aromatic ingredients and fragrances within women’s, men’s and unisex perfumes and aftershaves.

This Valentine’s Day, love is in the air and so are these popular romantic aromatic scents that people find attractive.

Rose

A classic image of romance, the rose’s association with love stretches back to Roman and Greek times as the flower of Aphrodite (or Venus) herself. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but its scent is commonly used in perfumery.

Rose Absolute oil mirrors the deep redness of the flower in colour, with a rich fruity, feminine, sometimes woody scent. Over 70% of rose oil is produced in Bulgaria, Turkey and Morocco, where many farmers heat the roses as soon as they bloom to capture their essence.

When applied on the skin, rose essential oil helps to hydrate skin and calm conditions such as rosacea or eczema.

Musk

Known for being a very primal scent, musk is a popular fragrance ingredient in men’s aftershave but its distinctive earthy, sweet, yet leathery smell makes it universally appealing.

Originally secreted from the Tibetan musk deer’s sex gland, it was a symbol of wealth and power to those who could afford it. Today, most perfumes use a synthetic musk as an animal-friendly alternative to disassociate from any ethical issues in the market.

At Zanos, we supply both Astromusk, Ambrettolide and Ganolid aroma chemicals to bring manufacturers quality musk synthetic fragrance ingredients.

Musk is also used in household products such as body lotion, hand sanitiser, shampoo, and soap for its cleansing properties.

Amyris oil

Amyris essential oil is said to have an aphrodisiac effect – relaxing the body and mind to further stimulate feelings of sexual desire.

Ranging from a light yellow to amber colour, Amyris is distilled from naturally fallen, dried Amyris balsamifera trees native to the Caribbean and parts of Mexico. It blends balsamic woody tones with a sweet richness and is really popular to use in incense, candles and of course perfumes – perfect for creating a romantic mood.

Other honourable romantic aromatic scents include vanilla and vetiver, citrus aroma ingredients and peppermint.

Here at Zanos, we supply a variety of aromatic fragrances and essential oils from our trusted suppliers to B2B fragrance manufacturers. Email webenquiries@zanos.co.uk or speak to our Sales Specialists on 01565 755899.
